Synopsis

A protest camp in Lobau, part of the Donau-Auen National Park in Vienna. A group of young people blocks construction equipment in an attempt to stop the development of the Lobau highway and the so-called “city street”. The film follows the occupation, nicknamed “Wasteland”, over the course of five months, divided into three discussion rounds where the activists recount the current state of their efforts. It addresses the activists, their motivations, and the question of why young people decide to sacrifice part of their free time to participate in activist movements, as well as what daily life looks like during the occupation.
