Synopsis

While working as a criminal case interpreter in a small town in California, filmmaker Rodrigo Reyes meets a young man called Sansón, an undocumented Mexican immigrant who has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. When he is denied permission to film Sansón, they start reconstructing Sansón’s childhood with the aid of his family and hundreds of letters, developing a multi-layered narrative about how immigration failure intersects with the criminal justice system.
