Synopsis

Young Laureana refuses to conform to the expectations of her grandmother and society. When she discovers her estranged uncle will compete in a world boxing championship in Venezuela, she dreams of the entire village watching the event live. But in La Suprema—the village from which the film takes its name—where there is neither electricity nor television, this dream is no small feat. Joined by Efraín, her uncle’s former trainer, she embarks on a journey to the city. Felipe Holguín Caro’s film gracefully captures the struggles of an isolated village and the resilience required to pursue one’s dreams against odds set by distance and circumstance.
