Lifelines focuses on intimate insights into the struggle for identity, belonging, and autonomy amidst complex social tensions. The four films showcase individuals who—no matter the obstacles in their way—establish their own paths outside of the social norm, discovering new forms of expression and community along the way. Whether in the tranquil landscape of Xochimilco, where a non-binary person balances tradition and self-actualization (LOLO), or in Quibdó, Colombia, where dance serves as a means of resistance against life on the streets (UNLESS WE DANCE), each film illuminates personal challenges which question the social fabric. The films weave through themes of migration and loss (Only When You Bury Me In This Earth), trans identity under restrictive regimes (Leila), and youth culture as a survival strategy, offering multifaceted perspectives on resilience and the quest for a place in the world.
